Prominent New York Sports Writer Lenn Robbins to Write Exclusively for Brooklynnets.com and Barclayscenter.com
Sep 26, 2013
BROOKLYN (September 26, 2013) – Lenn Robbins, an esteemed award-winning sportswriter for the New York Post since 1997, and a Brooklyn native, will begin writing exclusively for BrooklynNets.com and BarclaysCenter.com on Monday, September 30.
Known for breaking news, strong game coverage, and thoughtful opinions primarily as The Post’s college sportswriter and columnist for the past 16 years, Robbins will be expanding his reach in his new role. Robbins will provide in-depth coverage of the Brooklyn Nets for BrooklynNets.com, including home and away games and team practices, as well as offer extensive coverage about Barclays Center’s BROOKLYN BOXING™ franchise, the BROOKLYN HOOPS™ college basketball franchise, and the New York Islanders for BarclaysCenter.com.
“Lenn is a highly respected sportswriter, well-known in the market, who consistently offers comprehensive insight for his readers,” said Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. “We are serious about being an all encompassing destination for hard-hitting content about Barclays Center sports, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Islanders, and Lenn brings a lot of credibility to our Web sites. I have given him complete independence in his coverage and we will have no prior approval over his work. Lenn’s arrival is an innovative step in further engaging with our fans.”
“For a native Brooklynite, the opportunity to return 'home' and work for Barclays Center is more than a dream come true,” Robbins said. “I have had a great 16-year run at The Post and would only have left for a once-in-lifetime opportunity. The chance to cover the Brooklyn Nets, a legitimate NBA title contender, college basketball, with annual appearances by Kentucky and Maryland, championship boxing, and the New York Islanders provides me with a broad and exciting platform. I have accepted this job with the understanding that I will have the independence that I’ve enjoyed throughout my career to report and to analyze. I’m excited to get started.”
Robbins will also contribute stories for the Nets’ All-Access game programs and will do weekly segments on Barclays Center Television (BCTV), the arena’s in-house and online television network, to discuss all sports at Barclays Center. In addition, he will make occasional guest appearances on Nets’ game broadcasts on YES Network and WFAN.
Prior to joining the Post, Robbins held several different beats with The Record of Bergen County from 1992-97, including the New York Rangers and as the national college sports reporter. In addition, he was awarded first place by the Associated Press Sports Editors for best sports coverage of the New York Marathon.
From 1990-92, Robbins wrote for The National, the first all sports daily newspaper, in which he covered the NFC East and the NBA’s Atlantic Division. Prior to The National, Robbins had his first stint at The Record as the national college sports, NFL, and general assignment reporter from 1985-90.
In 2011, Robbins won the Jim Murray Outstanding Sportswriter Award and the Met Basketball Writers Good Guy Award. Robbins is a graduate of Stony Brook University and Canarsie High School.
