100 Days until the Opening of Barclays Center
Jun 20, 2012BROOKLYN – The countdown is on.
Today marks 100 days until the opening of Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the most anticipated sports and entertainment venue in the world and the new home of the Brooklyn Nets. Opening night on September 28 will be a major moment as Brooklyn’s own JAY Z will take the stage in what will be the first of his multiple concerts at Barclays Center.
“When Barclays Center opens its doors, it will be one of the most extraordinary venues for architecture, technology, customer service, and programming,” said Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark. “The reception we’ve received from Brooklyn has exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t be happier for the borough.”
Barclays Center will host more than 220 events in its first year, more than any other venue in its inaugural year. The extensive volume and variety of programming will include premier concerts featuring Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli, and Justin Bieber, monthly major professional boxing cards, top college basketball with NCAA basketball champion Kentucky vs. Maryland, family shows, professional hockey, and the Brooklyn Nets. Many major programming announcements are still to come.
Construction for the architecturally stunning venue is on time. Barclays Center will have one of the most intimate seating configurations ever designed into a modern multi-purpose arena, with unparalleled sightlines and first-class amenities. The venue will offer 18,200 seats for basketball and up to 19,000 seats for concerts. Located atop one of the largest transportation hubs in New York City, Barclays Center will be accessible by 11 subway lines, the Long Island Rail Road, and 11 bus lines.
